How do I place the sensor in the pot?
Proper sensor placement ensures accurate readings and long-term stability. Follow these steps to correctly position your substrate probe in the pot.
Prepare the substrate
Fill your pot with substrate up to the height where the sensor will be placed.
Gently tamp down the substrate to ensure it’s firm and level. Check that the height remains correct after tamping.
Position the probe
Place the sensor in the centre of the pot for the most representative readings.
Ensure the prongs sit flat and level, not angled, for consistent moisture and EC measurements.
Secure the sensor
Continue backfilling the pot with the substrate, ensuring the sensor stays in position.
Tamp down the substrate as you go to remove air pockets and ensure good contact with the probe.
Manage the cable
Loop the cable out of the top of the pot, keeping it secure and out of the way.
By following these steps, you’ll ensure stable, repeatable data collection, which will help you make more informed watering and feeding decisions.
