How do I place the probe through the pot
Properly positioning your substrate probe ensures accurate and consistent readings.
Follow these steps to securely place the probe through the side of your pot while maintaining a stable, repeatable setup.
Measure the correct placement
Use a ruler to determine the ideal insertion height based on your pot size and root zone depth. You can find that here.
Create an access point in the pot
Best method: Cut a small section out of the pot’s side to allow the sensor to make direct contact with the substrate.
Alternative: If cutting is not an option, you can:
Drill small holes that align with the prongs.
Gently push the probes through the side of the pot if the material allows.
Ensure the sensor is level
The sensor must be flat and parallel to the soil surface, not angled.
Incorrect positioning can skew moisture, EC, and temperature readings.
Secure the probe in place
Carefully push the sensor into the substrate without forcing it.
The sensor should stay in place on its own. If it feels loose or wobbles, the substrate may be too dry or too loose and may need to be reset.
Fixing a loose sensor:
Tamp down the substrate gently around the probe.
If needed, water the plant to improve substrate contact.
By following these steps, you ensure optimal sensor placement, leading to more reliable and actionable data for your grow.
